• Is it possible to complete the practical phase Master (MP) within the framework of own teaching activities?

  Yes, under certain conditions it is possible to complete the practical phase Master (MP) within the framework of your own teaching activity.

  If you already teach the respective subject independently in a secondary school (public law, teaching according to the Austrian curriculum), you can complete the practical phase Master (MP) within this framework.

  Please note that in any case you have to complete the accompanying lectures for the practical phase (both subjects and ABG). The respective accompanying course for the teaching subject must be completed in parallel to your own teaching activities.

  For each subject, one hour per week in the school year (in the case of a full-year appointment) or two hours per week in the school semester (only a six-month appointment) in the respective subject is sufficient to have the practical phase approved as part of the independent teaching activity.

  You do NOT need a mentor for this form of graduation. However, it may be that the practical phase overlaps with the induction phase and you therefore have an induction mentor. This is not relevant for the completion of the practical phase in this form.

  Registration takes place via u:space during the registration period in the pre-semester. You only register for the accompanying lecture and fill out the registration form (MP in the context of your own teaching activity), which is deposited at u:space. Based on this information, your application will be reviewed and, if necessary, this form of completion will be approved by the Internship Office. 

  Please note that the completion of the practical phase Master (MP) in the context of your own teaching activity is only possible if you have carried out a complete registration in the previous semester!
• What requirements do I need to be able to register for the Master's practical phase (MP)? Can I already pre-register for the Master's practical phase in the last Bachelor's semester?

  Registration for the practical phase Master (MP) can only take place if you are already enrolled in the Master's programme. Therefore, registration in the last Bachelor semester is not possible.

  Completion of the practical phase Master (MP) is recommended from the 2nd semester onwards.
• How does the registration work?

  Registration takes place in 2 steps:

  Step 1: Registration via u:space

  Registration for the Master's practical phase (MP) in the context of one's own teaching activities takes place in the pre-semester via u:space. When registering, you can choose that you do not need an internship to complete the practical phase Master (MP). (You will only be registered for the accompanying lecture).

  Step 2: Registration via web form

  In addition, you must notify the SSC Teacher Education of your own teaching activity via the web form. The link to the web form can be found on the registration page in u:space. 

  Deadline for application for own teaching activities: for the winter semester 15 August; for the summer semester 15 January.

  If you do not have a firm confirmation of a position by this date, you can only complete the practical phase through your own teaching activity in a later semester!

• Where can I find the web form?

  You can find the web form linked in u:space during the registration period. Please note to select the correct form for your graduation type (own teaching activity or own school) and actually submit it!
• How can I check if I have sent the web form?

  You will receive a confirmation e-mail at the e-mail address you provided (please use the unet address!). Keep this in a safe place. Check your spam folder if necessary. If you have not received a confirmation email, the form was not sent successfully!
• When and how must the registration for the KU Reflection and Evaluation of Own Practice (ABGMAPM2) take place?

  The KU Reflexion und Evaluation der eigenen Praxis (ABGMAPM2) must be completed parallel to the practical phase in a teaching subject. Registration takes place during the registration phase for the ABG courses via the corresponding course in u:space.
• How is the documentation of the practical phase done? How do I get my grade?

  During the semester you fill in the proof of own teaching activity and submit it at the end of the semester (31.1. for the winter semester, 30.6. for the summer semester) for the registration of the examination performance to the Internship Office SSC Teacher Training (schulpraktikum@univie.ac.at).

  Please prepare the PDF document so that the pages are rotated in the direction of reading and are arranged correctly. If possible, do not send individual pages/photos!

• Is it possible to complete the practical phase Master (MP) with existing work at a school if I am NOT teaching in the subject in question?

  Yes, if you are already working at a school, it is possible under certain conditions to complete the practical phase Master (MP) at this school.

  If you work at a secondary school (public law, teaching according to the Austrian curriculum) and only teach one subject (e.g. German), you can complete the internship in the other subject (e.g. GP) with a mentor from the teaching staff in this subject (e.g. GP; not outside the subject!) at this school. If you work in after-school care, as a learning assistant or in another function at this school, you can also complete both subjects at your school.

  You register via u:space during the registration period in the pre-semester. You register only for the accompanying LV and fill out the registration form (MP at your own school) that is deposited at u:space. There you enter the school code number and, if applicable, name a mentor at your school who can supervise you. Based on this information, your application will be reviewed and, if necessary, this form of completion will be approved by the internship office.

  Please note that the completion of the practical phase Master (MP) with an internship at your own school is only possible if you have completed a full registration in the previous semester!
• What requirements do I need to be able to register for the Master's practical phase (MP)? Can I already pre-register for the Master's practical phase in the last Bachelor's semester?

  Registration for the practical phase Master (MP) can only take place if you are already enrolled in the Master's programme. Therefore, registration in the last Bachelor semester is not possible.

• How are mentors registered?

  Mentors from an AHS/BMHS with a permanent contract (L1) of the old service law can be remunerated within the framework of this practice format if they register at the specific website.

  Whether remuneration is possible for MS teachers is examined on a case-by-case basis.

  In general, the supervision of students is possible without remuneration.
• How do you document the practical phase at your own school? How do I get my grade?

  You will keep the regular internship pass during the semester. At the end of the semester, your mentor will send the examination protocoll (by 31.1. for the winter semester, by 30.6. for the summer semester) to the Internship Office SSC Teacher Training (mentorinnen.support@univie.ac.at) for registration of the examination results.

  Alternatively, you can also send your internship pass to schulpraktikum@univie.ac.at .

• What does the cooperation with the ÖNB look like?

  Since the winter term 2020/2021, the practical phase Master (MP) in the subject Geography and Economic Education can be completed within the framework of the financial education activities of the Austrian National Bank (ÖNB).

  The internship is coordinated with the requirements of the subject didactics course accompanying the practical phase Master (MP). Thus, assignments, such as conducting a lesson study, can be realised within the framework of the internship.

  This internship is a fully insured employment with payment for the teaching work performed.
• Wie erfolgt die Anmeldung zur Praxisphase Master (MP) an der ÖNB?

  Registration for the practical phase Master (MP) takes place in the pre-semester via u:space.

  Registration periods in the pre-semester:

  • May (winter term)
  • November (summer term)

  You will be registered for the internship and the accompanying course at the same time.

  After the registration phase, all GW students who have registered for the practical phase (internship!) will receive information on how to apply to the Austrian National Bank (ÖNB).

  The ÖNB has its own application procedure. The ÖNB reports the persons selected for the ÖNB internship to the internship office.
